Animal Welfare: not really a policy.

ESG Report 2025-26: nothing much about animal welfare.

Stunning Policy

Iceland’s policy requires all animals and poultry used in Iceland-brand products to be stunned before slaughter, in line with EU Directive 119/1993 stunning requirements.

Halal/Kosher in Store

Iceland stocks labelled halal products, including own-label halal chicken (own-brand halal fresh chicken breast, processed in Poland) and third-party halal ranges such as Haloodies (halal-certified frozen burgers made from Irish beef, and other halal-only lines). It does not sell kosher meat. Iceland’s current own-label halal lines are explicitly certified and labelled.

Sourcing / Suppliers / Country of Origin
  • Beef: historically been supplied by ABP Food Group. Haloodies-branded halal beef burgers use grass-fed Irish beef.
  • Lamb: New Zealand, Ireland and possibly UK.
  • Chicken: A lot of imported chicken, SuperDrob (Poland), Thailand and even Hungary. Halal chicken is packed in Poland. Iceland’s better ranges of chicken are UK sourced.
Warnings

No unlabelled-halal controversy identified; Iceland’s halal offering is deliberately branded/labelled rather than blended into standard lines.
