Aldi

Policy Documents

Aldi is possibly the worst UK supermarket with regard to animal welfare policy and information.

British Quality / sourcing page

Stunning Policy

Aldi’s requires all own-label meat and poultry to be pre-stunned; it states it does not sell kosher meat or non-stunned halal meat. This is not stated in any document, the information is obtained from a press report!

Halal/Kosher in Store

No non-stun halal or kosher lines, but some people are reporting on social media that some branded halal products can be found in Aldi stores. Aldi has told press (in 2025) that 100% of its meat is from pre-stunned animals.

Sourcing / Suppliers / Country of Origin

I struggle to find anything to say about Aldi’s produce. The only webpage with any information describes just a few individual suppliers rather that an overall policy.

  • Aldi sources 100% of its “everyday” fresh beef, pork, poultry, milk and eggs from British, Red Tractor-approved farms. What “everyday” means is ambiguous.
  • Karro Food Group supply pork, bacon, gammon, sliced cooked meats. Yorkshire based Sofina Foods also for pork.
  • Wagyu from Warrendale.
  • Nothing about lamb, other than a supplier in Wiltshire.
  • Nothing about beef other than a single supplier called Matthew.
Warnings

The biggest warning sign is the lack of a policy document, no description of slaughter methods, and ambiguous and sparse descriptions of Aldi’s suppliers.
